WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Warriors hit the floor for their first matchup of the West Point Christmas Tournament Thursday night by taking on Falkville and the Warriors took control from the start as they routed the Blue Devils 92-60.
Five different West Point players found the scoring column in the opening period and their defense held Falkville to just nine points as they took a 21-9 lead into the second period. It was more of the same in the second as the Warriors got everyone involved offensively and their defense kept the pressure on the Blue Devils, holding them to just 10 points in the period and West Point wound up taking a 46-19 lead into the locker room at the half.
The second half was a lot like the first on the offensive end for West Point, but Falkville made a huge run to end the third period and the Warrior lead was cut to 67-47 after three. Each team traded baskets to start out the final period and after a trey by Falkville made it 75-55, a Tyler White triple kicked off a 9-0 Warrior run to stretch the lead to 84-55. West Point pulled away as the fourth quarter progressed and will advance through the winners bracket with a 92-60 win.
Six players finished in double-figures for West Point (7-10), led by Aubry Cleghorn finished with 16 points, Kobe Bowers added 13 points, White and Logan Selby each ended up with 12, Jonathan Fell and Will Cochran each added 11, Sam Wheeler ended up with seven, Brandon Bright added six and Mason Walls chipped in with four. The Warriors will take on the winner of Corner and Priceville Friday night at 6:30.
