HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Friday’s action in the Wallace State Pre-Christmas Bash got started with a meeting between the 10th ranked Lady Warriors of West Point and Decatur. After jumping out to a big lead early, West Point cruised through the second half and pulled away to defeat the Lady Red Raiders convincingly, 69-28.
The Lady Warriors started the game fast, building a 13-2 start after a basket from Lexi Shadix. A steal on an inbounds pass and quick bucket by Molly Pendley gave West Point a 20-4 lead midway through the opening quarter and a three-pointer from Miriam Oldacre stretched it 23-8 at the end of the period.
The Lady Red Raiders had no answer for the Lady Warriors as a bucket from Shadix made it a 30-8 game in the opening minutes of the second and Pendley turned another steal into a basket to put West Point ahead 38-13 with just three minutes to play in the half. Sheridan Bowers knocked down a free throw with less than a minute to play in the quarter and on the next possession, Emily Wells added a three-pointer in the final seconds to give the Lady Warriors an imposing, 47-17 advantage at the halftime break.
A pair of free throws from Shadix made it 52-19 early in the third quarter and another score from Miriam Oldacre stretched the lead to 55-21 as quarter progressed. A steal and layup on the other end by Shadix put West Point up by 40 at the end of the third and after Bowers knocked down a three to make it 69-26 midway through the fourth, the Lady Warriors pulled away to defeat Decatur 69-28.
Miriam Oldacre led West Point with 20 points in the win, followed by Shadix with 18, Pendley with 12, Ryleigh Jones with six, Wells and Bowers with five and Micah Oldacre with three. The Lady Warriors will get some time off over the holidays before taking on Gadsden City after the new year.
