PREP BASKETBALL: Vinemont collects home sweep of West End

VINEMONT, Ala. — Vinemont looked to recover at home against West End in Tuesday night hoops action after getting swept by J.B. Pennington last Thursday. They did just that as the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Patriots 57-36 while the Eagles rolled to a 64-46 win over the Patriots.

Vinemont 57 – West End 36 (varsity girls)

The Vinemont Lady Eagles (3-11) quickly recovered from their loss last Thursday as they rolled past West End, 57-36, to move to 3-11 overall on the season. Sadie Stanley racked up 31 points for the Lady Eagles in the win. Bailey Preiss added nine points and Madysen Hacker chipped in with eight for Vinemont.

The Lady Eagles will participate in the St. Bernard Christmas Tournament Thursday and take on Athens Bible at 4 p.m.

Vinemont 64 – West End 46 (varsity boys)

Vinemont had five players score in the first period but found itself tied at 11 after the opening period. A milestone happened during the second period when a Katch Johnson three gave him 1,000 points for his career at Vinemont. The Eagles took the lead to start the period and started to stretch their lead as a Collin Teichmiller three made it a 19-11 score. West End later cut into the deficit as they made it a 21-16 game, but Vinemont took over after that as they went on a 11-2 run to end the first half, six of those points by Tanner Brown, and Johnson and Curtis Kennedy each added a three, and they took a 32-18 lead into the locker room.

Another Johnson trey increased the Eagle lead to 35-18 to start out the third period, but West End made it a 37-25 game after a 7-2 run, and to 40-30 after five in a row. Colby Miller stopped the run with a three and Kennedy scored three in a row to push the lead to 46-30, but the Patriots scored the final seven points of the quarter to cut the Vinemont to 46-37 going into the final period.

West End made it a 48-40 game with 6:49 remaining in the game, but the Eagles didn’t let them get any closer than eight the rest of the way as they answered any runs by the Patriots with some of their own and wound up taking the game 64-46.

Johnson led Vinemont (5-10) with 16 points. Brown added 11 points, Colby Miller ended up with 10 points, Kennedy added eight, Teichmiller finished with seven, Jordan Hall and Clay Rogers each added five and Lucas Miller chipped in with two.

The Eagles will participate in the St. Bernard Christmas Tournament on Thursday as they’ll will take on Athens Bible at 5:15 p.m.
