MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Central Board approved fall sport reclassifications for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons Tuesday morning and a pair of local teams are making a move. Hanceville High School made the move from class 3A to class 4A and Fairview High School jumped from class 4A to class 5A. New regional alignments were revealed for football as well and the Bulldogs will join the Good Hope Raiders in 4A Region 6 while the Aggies will join the West Point Warriors in 5A Region 7. Tuesday morning’s reclassifications apply to football, cross country, volleyball and swimming and diving. New classifications for winter and spring sports will be released once those seasons are completed.
The AHSAA reclassifies every two years based on public school enrollment and private schools are classified based on a 1.35 multiplier and a competitive balance rating that can put some highly successful teams into higher classifications.
“I want to thank the AHSAA staff and Central Board for the hard work they put in to develop the reclassification plan that was approved,” AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese said. “This is something that must be done every two years. It was a challenging task, but everyone worked together to find the best solution as we move forward.”
