In the world of technology, things have really changed in the last few years. I remember when the first computers came out. They were bigger than a refrigerator. Now you can carry a cell phone in your pocket that will have more information than anyone ever thought would be possible. This is where us old folks have really been left behind.
I know a lot of people who were still connected to work and they were able to make the change there. But us old retirees have to call on our grandkids.
There are still other things that confuse some of us old folks.
A few years back as Granny was still employed by the State to help train office personnel on the new accounting program, she had to travel.
One afternoon as she was coming home, she called me from Dodge City and said, “Bring me some gas for I’m almost empty.”
I had been mowing and was hot and dusty. I got my gas can and headed to Dodge City. I checked my mileage down to Dodge City and it was 13 miles.
When I arrived, Granny was parked in the lot of a big gas station. I asked her why she didn’t just buy gas there and save me a drive down there. She said that it was a self-service station.
“You have to pump the gas yourself and I do not know how to work the pump,” she said.
I then asked her why she didn’t ask them to pump the gas for her. She said she didn’t want them to know she didn’t know how to do it. So we drove the 13 miles back home.
Don’t tell anyone, but she still does not know how to pump her own gas. Granny has been left behind in this modern world.
