HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Hanceville took on Mortimer Jordan in the second semifinal game of their Thanksgiving Tournament, with the winner to take on Moody for the championship Friday. Hanceville fell behind early, 15-8 and found themselves trailing by nine after one at 20-11.
The Blue Devils stretched their lead to 28-13 to start out the second period, but Hanceville’s Tyson Bellmon converted a three-point play with six minutes remaining to make it a 28-16 game. After Mortimer Jordan pushed its lead to 33-16, the Bulldogs finished the quarter on a 7-2 run, including a steal and a layup by Brodie Malcom, to cut the deficit to 35-23 at the half.
But that momentum that Hanceville had to finish out the first half quickly evaporated as the Blue Devils lit it up from deep in the third quarter, drilling eight three-pointers and outscoring the Bulldogs 32-13 to take a 67-36 lead going into the final period. The fourth quarter was run by a hot clock and despite Hanceville’s attempt for a late comeback, the deficit was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome and they wound up falling 76-44.
Raiden Morgan led the way for Hanceville with 13 points. Malcom added nine points, Ephram Milne ended up with six, Kainon Moore added five, Bellmon and Ben Johnson each chipped in with three and Izayah Glenon and Zach Campbell each finished with two. The Bulldogs will take on Cold Springs in the third-place game on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
