CULLMAN, Ala. – The Vinemont Band Booster Holiday Craft Show took place over the weekend attracting shoppers eager to get a jump on holiday gift buying. The annual craft show is the largest fundraiser for the Vinemont Band program. This spring, the band is planning a trip to Walt Disney World, where it will perform.
This year’s show packed the Cullman Civic Center with talented and creative artisans from around Alabama. More than 90 vendors participated, bringing with them an opportunity for shoppers to find that great gift for the hard to please people on their Christmas lists. Handmade jewelry, baked goods, home goods, candles and gourd art were just a few of the thousands of items available Friday and Saturday.
Barbara Yoder of Nature’s Fragrance was one of the many vendors at the show. She makes soy candles in a variety of scents.
She reported, “Today (Saturday) has been much busier than Friday. Friday was slow, possibly because of the rain, but today has been great.”
Many of the vendors agreed with Yoder’s assessment and were very pleased with Saturday’s turnout.
Members of the Vinemont Band and the Vinemont Band Boosters worked hard both days to make sure everything ran smoothly. They served up hot chili and taco soup as well as hamburgers and other food. The band students sold tickets for a $1,000 cash giveaway and dozens of door prizes.
Vinemont Band Booster Miranda Reeves has coordinated the craft show for the past two years. She and Band Director Skyler King were both pleased with this year’s turnout.
King said, “It’s been good! We are kind of bummed that we won’t be able to be here next year, but it’s definitely been a good one.”
The show was the last event held at the Cullman Civic Center, which has been sold to Desperation Church. The Vinemont Band Boosters and other community organizations that have used the large event space are now looking for other venues
Reeves said, “I am hoping by the end of January that we will have a place (for next year’s show). I am hoping all my vendors will know by the end of February or the first of March.”
King added, “We have found options, but we are just trying to find the right one. We have so many vendors that want to be here, we don’t have enough room for everyone that wants to come.”
The Band Boosters are hoping for a larger venue for future craft shows. Reeves said they have around 100 vendors on the waiting list.
