John Nathan Eskridge, 87, of Double Springs entered into rest Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
John was born March 29, 1932 in Halls, Tennessee.
He attended school in Halls, Tennessee and was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church in Double Springs for 20 years. John loved working in the yard, camping and spending time with his grandkids. He was known by many as “Indian John.”
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 8, 2019 from 6-9 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where services will be Saturday at noon. Brother Ray Bridgmon will officiate. Burial will be in Phil Campbell Cemetery.
John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Velma F. Eskridge; sons Donald Eskridge, Jeffrey Brannon and his wife Latrina, and Bobby Sims and his wife Reba; brother James Eskridge; sister Donna Szczecian; “Paw” to six grandchildren, Nina Brannon, Justin Bates, Joshua Brannon, Benjamin Godsey, Jeff Vandiver and Delinda Evans; and “Paw” to nine great-grandchildren, Maison Evans, Kendra Tyree, Kanesha Flanagin, Tyler Bates, Kylie Brannon, Lainey Joe Evans, Claire Bates, Jessie Rae Bates, and Kortland Alton Bates.
He was preceded in death by his sons John Waylon Eskridge and Paul Steven Eskridge; daughter Pamela Eskridge; parents Frank and Wilma Eskridge; and sisters Frances Yarbarough and Marsha Eskridge.
