BAILEYTON, Ala. – The Christmas season is upon us and for many it can be a worrisome and stressful time of year. The Parkside Outreach Program and A&D Motors hope to eliminate some of the holiday stress for families in Baileyton who are struggling financially. The Christmas Coalition is an effort to adopt families for Christmas as a way of giving back to the community.
Families in need can apply now through Dec. 1 at the Parkside Outreach Program office for consideration. Debbie Humphries with Parkside Outreach Program said that the number of families the program will be able to help has not been determined.
“I wish knew how many we are going to be able to help,” said Humphries, “but we just don’t know right now.”
To apply, families must live within the Parkside School district and provide proof of income, residence, proof of child’s age and a valid ID for all adults. For children, birth certificates and custody papers must be presented.
This is the second year for the Christmas Coalition efforts.
Humphries explained, “Jennifer Harlow, as long as I can remember, has always taken in families and bought the kids Christmas presents out of her own pocket. She’s always done that but now it’s through us.”
Harlow established the Parkside Outreach Program, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, in June of last year and Humphries joined her in August.
The Christmas Coalition will be holding a toy drive Nov.14 at CJ’s Saloon in Arab and a coat drive for all ages. New or gently used coats and toys can be donated at both A&D locations in Arab and Baileyton. Donations of food for the program’s food pantry, as well as monetary and clothing donations can be dropped off at the Baileyton location.
The Parkside Outreach Program is located at 12756 Alabama Highway 69 in Baileyton.
