ADDISON, Ala. – An Addison man was arrested Tuesday, charged in connection with a stolen tractor and other farm equipment.
According to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), CCSO investigators, with help from the Winston County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and Addison Police Department (APD), arrested Justin Roy Bates, 34 on charges of first-degree receiving stolen property; he is charged in both Cullman and Winston Counties.
The CCSO said a tip was received that Bates was in possession of the stolen property. The WCSO located his vehicle at a residence in Winston County, where authorities recovered multiple stolen items.
“The investigators then continued to a residence in the Sardis community, located in Cullman County,” said a media release from the CCSO, “and recovered a stolen tractor, skid loader, bush hog and other stolen farm equipment hidden deep in a wooded area out of view from the public.”
“Working closely with the Winston County Sheriff’s Office and Addison Police Department, we are glad to be arresting the thieves in that area who want to steal from our hard-working citizens in both Cullman and Winston County. I am also proud to report that we have returned most of the stolen farm equipment to the rightful owners and the suspect is now sitting in jail where he belongs,” said Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry. “I would also like to thank all the investigators from our office, Winston County Sheriff’s Office and Addison Police Department for continuing to push to arrest those criminals in our community.”
The CCSO said other charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
Bates is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center without bond.
