CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jeff Clemons on Saturday officially announced his bid for Cullman County Commission Chairman.
Below is Clemons’ announcement, in full:
Today I am proud to announce that I am running for Chairman of the Cullman County Commission.
I have spent all of my adult life—the past 33 years—working for the Citizens of Cullman County as a deputy sheriff. I started in dispatch, and worked in just about all aspects of the sheriff’s office including patrol, investigations and most recently as Captain of the Special Projects Division.
There is nothing greater a public servant can do—-whether that’s as a deputy sheriff or as an elected official—but to help people! I have worked during my career all over Cullman County and I see the needs of all County County Citizens.
If elected I want to be a conservative steward of taxpayer money and find areas to save taxpayer money. I will also work with my fellow commissioners to improve our roads, make life better for our citizens, county employees and and also work to keep water rates as low as possible on the citizens, businesses and poultry farmers of Cullman County.
Another issue is transparency in our local county government. Making our commission meetings more available to the public and also making where taxpayer dollars are spent more accessible to the public.
I am not running “against anyone”—just to continue to serve the citizens of our county!
As a lifelong public servant, NOT a politician, I humbly ask for your vote to move Cullman County forward!

Clemons is the second to announce his candidacy for the commission chairman position currently held by Republican Kenneth Walker. Former Chairman Wiley Kitchens announced his bid in October. The primary election will be held March 3, 2020.
