HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After advancing past area tournaments earlier in the week, West Point, Fairview, Vinemont, Holly Pond and Meek were all in action at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville Thursday for this year’s North Super Regional Tournament. Unfortunately, all but the Lady Aggies were eliminated on day one but Fairview will be back on the floor tomorrow, having already earned a spot in next week’s state tournament, to compete in the semi-finals against Jacksonville.
Class 1A Tournament
Meek 3 – Falkville 0 (25-12, 25-8, 25-13)
Meek 2 – Donoho 3 (21-25, 14-25, 25-23, 25-21, 9-15)
The Lady Tigers were coming off an area title before Thursday’s North Super Regional got underway and despite cruising past Falkville to get things started, they couldn’t keep it up in the next round against Donoho and were eliminated after five tight sets.
Class 3A Tournament
Holly Pond 3 – J.B. Pennington 1 (24-26, 25-13, 25-16, 25-10)
Holly Pond 0 – Geraldine 3 (9-25, 7-25, 23-25)
The Lady Broncos advanced past J.B. Pennington in four sets to get things started Thursday morning but ran into a strong Geraldine squad in the next round and fell in straight sets to the Lady Bulldogs.
Vinemont 1 – Susan Moore 3 (25-21, 10-25, 16-25, 22-25)
The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Susan Moore by taking the first set, but the Lady Bulldogs responded by winning the next three to win the match and eliminate Vinemont.
Class 4A Tournament
Fairview 3 – D.A.R. 0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-16)
Fairview 3 – Wilson 1 (24-26, 25-22, 27-25, 25-20)
The Lady Aggies will move on to play Jacksonville Friday at 2:00 p.m. for a chance to play in the North Super Regional Finals before moving on to the state tournament in Birmingham next week.
Class 5A Tournament
West Point 0 – Jasper 3 (11-25, 10-25, 13-25)
The 2019 campaign came to an end for the Lady Warriors in Huntsville Thursday morning after falling to the top-ranked Jasper Lady Vikings in straight sets.
