Anthony Joseph Schaffer, 87, passed away Oct. 17, 2019 at his home surrounded by family.
He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He retired from NASA (Redstone Arsenal) after 32 years of service, where he worked on the Apollo and Space Shuttle program. Tony was an accomplished master wood craftsman, creating many beautiful pieces of furniture for home and Church. He had a passion for boats. He enjoyed bicycling in the early mornings.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Angela Schaffer, parents Jacob and Marcella, brothers Louis and Charles and sister Clotilda Stewart.
He is survived by his brother Norbert Schaffer; wife Helen Schaffer; three children Rebecca Parker (Jerry), Stanley Schaffer (Deborah), and Mark Schaffer (Candace); three grandchildren Levon Parker (Katrina), Tiffany McKoy, and Leonora ‘Leo’ Schaffer; and one great-grandchild Christian Parker.
Visitation will be at Moss Funeral Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his beloved Sacred Heart Church or School in memory of Anthony Schaffer.
