Obituary: Edna Mae Strickland

Edna Mae Strickland, 89, of Haleyville, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2019 at Haleyville Health Care.

She was born Jan. 23, 1930 to Herbert F. and Vera E. Crumpton. Edna had been a member of First Baptist Church in Haleyville since 1956, where she had sung in the choir for a number of years and worked in the nursery. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed her flowers. She was a fantastic cook. Edna made the “best” buttermilk biscuits in the world and a pound cake that was to-die-for!

Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where the service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Winston Memorial Cemetery. Dr. T.B. Stringfellow will officiate.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Sharon Kaye Bowers, husband Richard; grandson, Richard C. Bowers; granddaughters, Amber Melia Bowers, Sharron Kay Cumins, husband Richie, and Shannon Marie Strickland; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; and six sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred D. Strickland; son, Stephen M. Strickland; and parents, Herbert F. and Vera E. Crumpton.
