ARLEY, Ala. – After dropping last week’s matchup on the road against Brilliant, Meek returned home Friday night to host the Tornadoes of Pickens County. The Tigers were hoping to bounce back after falling to Pickens County last season, but the Tornadoes were just too much to handle and Meek fell to 0-8 after losing 44-13.
Pickens County scored early and often in this one, jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game. The Tornadoes stretched that lead to 20-0 by the start of the second quarter and continued to pile on before the half. Two quick touchdowns made it 32-0 midway through the second and Pickens County found the end zone two more times before the half to take an imposing 44-0 lead into the break.
The Tigers were able to find the end zone early in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 44-6 but couldn’t chip away more before the start of the fourth. Meek got on the scoreboard once again early in the fourth quarter to make it a 44-13 game but neither team moved the score again after that and the Tornadoes handed the Tigers their eighth loss of the season.
Meek will be back on the road next week for a region game at Marion County.
