“Curly” Henry Duke, 89, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019.
He was born on February 26, 1930, where he grew up in the Walter Community.
Curly has been actively involved in community services, such as the Water Board
Chairman and Assistant Fire Chief for the Volunteer Fire Dept., and he also
served as Voting Beat Chairman for over 25 years. He served his country in the
Korean War and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Walter Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Duke; son, Mitch (Kathy) Duke;
daughter-in-law, Derinda Duke; grandchildren, Tyler Duke, Jessica (Steven)
Jordan, Nathan Duke; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Jordan and Henry Jordan;
brother Johnny (Linda) Duke, brother-in-law Ralph Schnelle, and sister-in-law
Stella Duke.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Duke; son, Mike Duke; parents,
Jack and Fannie Duke; brother, C.W. Duke; and sisters, Rachel Schnelle and
Jackie Ellard.
Pallbearers are Tyler Duke, Nathan Duke, Steven Jordan, Henry Jordan, Neil
Foust, Phillip Hicks and Steven O’Brien.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, at Duck River
Baptist Church, with Sherman Bailey officiating. His body will lie in state for
one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Duck River Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Rick Gober and
staff, and Kindred Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Duck River Cemetery fund.
