Obituary: Flora Baccus

Flora Baccus, 94, of Haleyville, Alabama passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville.

Flora was born on May 31, 1925 in Winston County, Alabama. She was a lifetime member of Henryfield F.C.M. Church in Ashridge Community, she worked at Burdick West Nursery from 1969 to 1986 and worked at Dr. Malcom Blake’s clinic on nights and weekends helping with mothers and babies. She was a member of the Haleyville Civitans, an honorary member of the Double Springs Civitan, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She received the Civitan of the Year award in 2003, 2007 and 2008, Haleyville Civitan Club Community Service Award in 2002, Women of Distinctions Award in 2008, Double Springs Study Club, and Civitan International for 25 years of service. Flora enjoyed gardening, sewing, Cattle Association, and sitting with the elderly. Flora Baccus was known by many people in this community. She loved people and loved to serve and always put a smile on everyone’s face she came in contact with. Her dedication to her community and church was unwaivering. She had a heart for visiting and helping others especially the sick and elderly.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019 at the Henryfield F.C.M. Church (Ashridge Community) starting at 6 p.m. The service will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 at the church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Brother Danny Page, Brother Hugh Cavender and Doctor Ron Horton will officiate the service.

Flora is survived by her son Gene (Betty) Baccus; daughter Dorthy (Alexander) Kenneth; brother, Herbert Ingle; sisters, Eula Defoor and Linda Shipman; she was mamaw to four grandchildren: Michelle (Greg) Wilson, Kathy (Shane) Snoddy, Connie (Heath) Tidwell, and Tonya (Tim) Hamilton; eight great-grandchildren: Brianna Wilson, Brooklyn Robbins, Haley Wilson, Abby Tidwell, Hunter Hamilton, Gavin Wilson, Allie Tidwell, and Tyler Snoddy; and special nieces, Jettie Spiers, Glenda Terry, and Judy Kemp.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Harley Baccus; parents, Isham and Lillian Ingle; brother, Billy Ingle; sisters, Mary (Wilburn) Thomas and Edna (Robert) Knox; brothers-in-law, Eldon Defoor and AJ Shipman; and sister-in-law, Juanita Ingle.
