HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Students Colton Hunter and Kason Hitt were recognized Thursday by the Hanceville City Council and Mayor Kenneth Nail. The two boys went above and beyond to help other students at Hanceville Elementary School by setting up a lemonade stand over the summer.

The boys, both second graders at Hanceville Elementary, wanted to help less fortunate students by raising money for lunch fees. They decided that a lemonade stand would be a great way to do that, so they set up one day at Hanceville City Hall. The community showed up to support these young philanthropists and the boys raised an impressive $1,194.

Nail presented the two boys with official proclamations recognizing their “charitable spirit and effort helping those in need.”

“This is a credit to their moms and dads,” said the mayor. “These two fellas seen there was a need and they opened up a lemonade stand.”

Nail asked the boys if helping others gave them a great feeling and the boys, both flashing huge smiles, nodded yes.

Colton Hunter is the son of Cody and Khali Hunter. When he isn’t in school or working to help others, he enjoys basketball, baseball, soccer and racing remote-controlled cars.

Kason Hitt is the son of Kevin and Valerie Hitt. He enjoys basketball, baseball, shooting his bow and arrow and racing remote-controlled cars. Kason Hitt laughed after the presentation saying he thought he might be getting a key to the city.

Both boys described the experience as “exciting” and said they hope to continue giving back to their classmates and the city of Hanceville.
