DODGE CITY, Ala. – The Dodge City Town Council Thursday night voted to move its October meeting back one week from Oct. 10 to Oct. 3, when the Town will open bids for the CR 216 – Bridge Culvert Replacement Project.
The project will see the replacement of the drainage structure under County Road 216/Beech Grove Road at Simpson Creek. The existing bridge culvert will be replaced with a triple barrel 10”x5” box culvert. A slight adjustment will be made to the alignment of the stream flowing from the north on the east side of County Road 216. It will also see temporary construction of an easement and optional drainage easements from property owners affected by the construction.
Mayor Tawana Canada said she spoke with Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman about the project. According to Canada, Gudger said an Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II) grant could potentially pay for almost the entirety of the bridge project. ATRIP-II money is the state’s portion of the new fuel tax revenue that will be awarded to chosen applicants by the ATRIP-II Committee. Gudger sits on the eight-person ATRIP-II Committee.
The approximate cost of the project is $75,000 to $125,000.
Canada said, “I’ve been talking to Sen. Gudger, there is an ATRIP grant that possibly will pay the total amount of the bridge. He is on the committee, so he’s assuring me that he will give it everything he has to push it through. We filled out the appropriate paperwork.”
The council passed its FY2019-2020 budget, which is set at $400,515.00 in income and $375.734.80 in expenditures.
New Town Deputy David Pitts reported the ACE Hardware in Dodge City was burglarized the weekend before Labor Day.
Lastly, the council voted to suspend the rules in order to vote on purchasing a new computer for Canada for an estimated $662. The purchase was approved.
The Dodge City Town Council normally meets on the second Thursday of each month. The next scheduled council meeting is Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
