ARAB, Ala. – The West Point Warriors were back on the road for their second matchup of the season and while they found some success scoring points on offense, the Arab Knights had some success as well and came from behind to defeat the Warriors 49-35.
Quarterback Will Cochran connected with Whitt Laney for a 29-yard touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead, but the Knights responded on their next possession and tied the game at 7. Cochran re-took the lead for West Point with a 3-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter but a touchdown pass just a few plays later from Arab tied the game at 14.
Cochran’s second touchdown through the air and third of the game found Kobe Bowers from 7-yards out and Logan Selby’s extra point put the Warriors back in front 21-14. West Point began building a little momentum after that, stretching the lead to 28-14 on a QB sneak from Cochran that gave the Warriors a two-score lead at the halftime break.
West Point continued to add to its lead early in the third quarter when Cochran hit Laney again for a 45-yard touchdown and made it a 35-14 game early in the second half. The pass to Laney was Cochran’s fifth touchdown of the night.
Unfortunately for Warriors fans, it was all Arab after that. The Knights proceeded to tear off 35 unanswered points in the final two quarters and managed to come all the way from behind to knock off West Point at home 49-35.
The Warriors will have to try and shake this one off and regroup before opening up region play at Hamilton next week.
