Good Hope City Councilman John Harris passes away

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Good Hope City Councilman John Harris has passed away at the age of 58. Cullman County Commission Chairman Kenneth Walker confirmed the sad news at Tuesday morning’s commission meeting.

Harris, who many in Cullman County know as Santa Claus at Christmastime at the Cullman County Courthouse, had been battling leukemia.

Obituary:

Funeral services for John “Johnny” Edward Harris, 58, of Cullman will be at 11 am. Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with Dr. Ralph Andrews officiating; interment in Good Hope Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harris passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2019 at UAB Hospital. He was born Oct. 23, 1960 to James Daniel Harris and Gwendolyn Faye Headrick.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Daniel Harris, Sr. and stepfather, Julius Headrick.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Laura Harris; daughter, Anna (Wesley) McSwain; son, Derek (Keisha) Harris; grandchildren, Peyton and Audrey McSwain, Mabry Harris, and baby John Vance coming soon; mother, Gwendolyn Faye Headrick; brother, Danny (Joy) Harris; stepmother, Carolyn Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Good Hope Baptist Church Children’s and Youth Ministry.
