HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Children filled CW Day Park in Hanceville Friday evening for Kids’ Night Out. The party is hosted each year by the City of Hanceville to give kids a great night of food and fun as summer comes to an end and the school year begins.

The park was full of laughter as kids enjoyed bouncy houses, a climbing wall, the dunking booth, a mechanical bull, train rides and catching up with friends. Families even brought their dogs for a fun and relaxing night in the park.

First responders from across the area were out with their fire engines and other vehicles for the kids to see. Hanceville Fire and Rescue and Hanceville Police were joined by the Dodge City, Colony, Loretto, Crane Hill, Berlin, Johnson’s Crossing, Good Hope and Logan fire departments to show the kids their trucks. The Cullman Police Department showed off its helicopter and Cullman County Sheriff’s Office brought vehicles as well. Even Batman stopped by in his Batmobile to visit with the kids before they head back to class.

In addition to the fun activities, River Valley Ingredients provided 400 Chick-fil-A sandwiches, chips and drinks. Folks also lined up for free lemonade and Blue Bell Ice Cream.

Mayor Kenneth Nail couldn’t have been happier with this year’s turnout and praised River Valley Ingredients for its continued support and generosity, saying, “it’s not just this Kids’ Night Out they do. Next week when these kids get to Hanceville Elementary School on Wednesday, they will have everything they need sitting on their desks.”

Jamie Sewell and Steve Smith with River Valley Ingredients were working hard giving out sandwiches and drinks. Sewell said this is at least the 10th year for the company to sponsor the Kids’ Night Out event. It provided the food and the many bouncy houses.

Among the crowd were Kage and Katelynn Hurst who will be sophomores at Hanceville High School. The twins have mixed feelings about returning to school next week.

“I left in eighth grade, so I’m a little nervous about going back,” said Kage Hurst, “but I do have some friends there already.”

The twins found their friend Haley Whitehead while at the park. She will also be a sophomore at Hanceville High School. She said math was her favorite thing about school. The three sophomores are hoping for a great year.

The Hanceville Bulldog mascots, Spike and Spice, came out to greet the kids and they seemed very excited to have the students headed back at school. Open house will be Monday night with the kids returning for the 2019-2020 school year Wednesday.
