John Paul Bowling, 68, of Arley, Alabama entered into rest Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at North Alabama Specialty Hospital in Athens, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Bowling was born Jan. 19, 1951 in Alexander City, Alabama. He attended Cullman High School and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church for many years. John served in the Army during the Vietnam War and later in the National Guard.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 2, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison with services Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in the Helicon community. He will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Brother Greg Dollar will officiate. Burial will follow in adjoining cemetery.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha Bowling; sons, Kevin Bowling and his wife Christi, Jason Bowling and his wife Lori, and Scott Bowling and his wife Miranda; sister, Maudean Lindsey; and mother-in-law, Collene Brown. He was known as “Papa” to his seven grandchildren, Austin, Jaycey, Caleb, Callie, Claire, Briley, and Sadie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Johnson McKee, and father-in-law, Herbert Brown.
