City school board makes last-minute personnel changes ahead of new school year

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City School Board held a special called meeting Thursday morning to take care of a few last-minute issues before the start of the 2019-2020 school year.  Most of the late changes were personnel ones.

Valerie Parris was introduced by East Elementary Principal David Wiggins at the meeting. Parris has been approved as the new special education instructional assistant at East. Wiggins described Parris as, “reliable, dependable and driven.”

A longtime substitute teacher at the school, Parrish said, “I love East and I subbed in the special about 30 times last year and I really liked it.”

The school board approved the following items:

  • Salvage select textbooks from West Elementary
  • Cullman City Primary School to adopt “A Fresh Look at Phonics” by William Blevins to supplement reading instruction
  • Revision to agreement dated July 7, 2019 with Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood (Amendment 1)
  • 2019-2020 CCS athletic and band supplement schedules
  • 2019-2020 CCS head coach/band director contracts
  • 2019-2020 CCS technology supplement schedule
  • 2019-2020 Cullman High School non-athletic supplement schedules
  • 2019-2020 CMS, East Elementary, West Elementary and CCPS non-athletic supplement schedules
  • Resignation of Cassity Campbell- Disabilities assistant at Cullman City Head Start
  • Transfer of Theresa Bryant from CNP worker at East to special education teacher at East and West Elementary
  • Leave of absence for Ashley Garrison, first-grade teacher at CCPS effective Jan. 3, 2020
  • Lois Lay to carry over unused vacation days
  • Permission for Amy Sessions, West Elementary, and Jessie Justice Brooks, Cullman City Head Start, to miss Institute Day

The Cullman City School Board will meet again Monday, Aug. 19 at 4 p.m. for the first FY2020 Cullman City Schools budget hearing. The regular meeting will follow the budget hearing at 5 p.m. in the central office board room.
