MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 23rd annual Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) North-South All-Star Sports Week is winding down and Thursday evening’s activities included this year’s North-South All-Star Volleyball Match. Addison’s Savannah Manley landed on the North roster after a stellar junior season that ended with a state title and 2A State Tournament MVP honors.
After both rosters were recognized for the crowd, this year’s match got underway at the Multiplex at The Cramton Bowl at 4 p.m. The South All-Stars took the first set 25-17 and held off a late charge from the North squad to take a close second set 25-23. The South completed the sweep in third set by knocking off the North team 25-18. After the South’s victory on Thursday, the North now leads the all-time series 14-8.
Even though the North didn’t get the result they wanted on the court, Manley enjoyed the experience in Montgomery and even got the opportunity to make new friends.
“I thought it was a great experience just coming down here and being with the girls and getting to meet a lot of new people,” Manley said. “It was fun because I got to play against a lot of these girls in-season so getting to actually play with them and become friends, it was just great. Overall it was just a good experience and I liked it a lot.”
The Lady Bulldogs have won seven straight titles and Manley wants to try and build off this experience going into her final season at Addison.
“We learned a lot of new things at practice here and I just want to go into our season head-on and hopefully win another state championship.”
The AHSAA’s 23rd annual North-South All-Star Week will conclude tonight with the North-South All-Star Football game at the Cramton Bowl.
