CULLMAN, Ala. – The annual Cullman County Rabies Clinic will take place across Cullman County Saturday, June 15. The clinic, which will be happening at several locations (see below) is under the supervision of Cullman County veterinarians. It will take place rain or shine.

Alabama state law requires vaccination of all dogs and cats 3 months of age or older; failure to vaccinate pets for rabies may result in fines and court costs.

NOTE: When participating in the clinic, get the name of the veterinarian who vaccinates your pet. This is important because if your pet is ever picked up by Cullman County Animal Control, the name of the veterinarian will be required as part of proof of vaccination.

Dr. Rebecca Durham of Compton’s Veterinary Hospital shared why it’s important to vaccinate pets, saying, “You want to protect our pets, of course, but rabies is also a risk for us. Rabies is a zoonotic disease (from which) we can protect ourselves as humans and also our pets. It’s an easy disease to prevent by just a simple vaccination.”

Zoonotic diseases are those that can be spread between animals and people.

For Saturday’s clinic, all pets should be on a leash or in a carrier. The cost for the vaccination is $12 per pet.
