Obituary: Ellis “Donald” Baker

Ellis Donald “Chief” Baker, 63, of Addison died on June 3, 2019 in Tennessee.

Donald was born on Sept. 28, 1955 in Cullman. Donald attended Addison High School and went on to become an Addison Police officer where he served as police chief for 29 years. Chief Baker retired in 2017 and went on to do what he loved most, traveling and riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed Deer and Turkey hunting when he was not out riding, and had several nicknames like “Chief”, “Duck” and “Joe Don.” Donald was a very mischievous person and loved playing jokes on people, especially the girls in the office.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, where a memorial service will be held at 2. Brother John Baker and Brother Jerry Baker will officiate.

Donald is survived by his son, Casey Baker and his wife Tanya; brothers, Charles Baker and his wife Patsy, and Jerry Baker and his wife Sharon; sisters, Mary Cleghorn and Kathy Steele; and he was Paw Paw to his grandson, Casyn Elijah Baker; and special friend Teresa Palmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vickie Joan Baker; parents, John and Dorothy Baker; and brothers, Leborn, Billy and Eddy Baker.
