CULLMAN, Ala.Fire damaged the popular Sunflour Bakery & Eatery Thursday evening. Good Hope Fire Chief David Scott said the inside of the structure is “probably a total loss.”

“We don’t know the cause yet. It’s under investigation,” said Scott. “The inside, the whole inside, is probably a total loss. It got put out fast, but it was a real hot fire, and it looked like it had been burning for a while before anybody noticed it and called it in. It was a lot of damage.”

Smoke could be seen billowing from the structure just after 7:30, but the fire was quickly contained by Good Hope Fire Rescue, Cullman Fire Rescue and the Bethsadia Volunteer Fire Department. Cullman EMS was also on the scene.

The bakery is located at 324 County Road 222.

Cullman Fire Rescue Chief Brian Bradberry said, “Our guys got there with Good Hope and got it knocked down. We don’t know the extent of the damages. It was a good job, a good team effort by all of the departments.”

The business was closed at the time of the fire. Scott said there were no injuries. He said his department was on the scene until around 10:15 Thursday night.

Sunflour Bakery posted on its Facebook page Friday morning: “For those who do not know we are very heartbroken. There was a fire at the bakery last night. We are closed and not sure when we will reopen. If everyone could just keep all who are affected in your thoughts and prayers. We want to give a huge thank you to ALL first responders who work so hard and diligently to put it out. We also want to thank everyone who has called and sent messages checking on everyone.”
