HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) advises motorists that contractor Wiregrass Construction will begin resurfacing about 3.5 miles of Interstate 65 in southern Morgan County and northern Cullman County on the evening of Sunday, June 2.

The $1,777,862 project includes milling and resurfacing between the bridge at Hurricane Creek north of Vinemont and the bridge over the CSX railroad north of Lacon. Work will begin on the northbound roadway and later transition to the southbound roadway.

Motorists are advised to expect single-lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights throughout the summer. Please be prepared to merge and reduce speed, and remain on the lookout for workers and equipment.

In addition to the night work, there is some day work planned for late next week. On Thursday, June 6, and Friday, June 7, weather permitting, shoulder work will be performed between about 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on northbound I-65. This will be a moving operation. No closures are planned for the travel lanes, but the inside and outside shoulders will be closed periodically.
