CULLMAN, Ala. – United Way of Cullman County (UWCC) is getting ready to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
“On May 23, 1979 a group of leaders came together to create a unified front to address the concerns they had for Cullman County. These 18 founding board members created the Cullman County United Fund, and this year what is now known as the United Way of Cullman County is celebrating the generous impact made by the organization over the last 40 years,” said a media release from the organization. “United Way’s mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities has not changed since Carl Stiefelmeyer, Jr. was president of that first board.”
UWCC will hold its annual meeting Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 11:30-1 p.m. at Loft 212. Board members, volunteers and longtime community partners will gather to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2018-19 campaign and honor the history of the organization.
“It truly is a privilege to serve as the executive director of this great organization,” said UWCC Executive Director Becky Goff. “For 40 years, volunteers and business partners have contributed from their paychecks to help improve our community. An unmeasurable amount of volunteer hours has been spent, and thousands of lives have been changed. This year we not only celebrate the accomplishments of our campaign, but we will celebrate the many generations who have made an impact on behalf of this organization.”
During the annual meeting, UWCC will honor the 2018-19 top 10 campaigns, highlight the events of the year and present the Roy Drinkard Outstanding Volunteer Award. This year, UWCC’s Board of Directors selected Tim Collins as the recipient of the award. He will be honored posthumously for his contributions to UWCC.
“Tim was a board member and friend to United Way. He worked tirelessly to bring hope and promise to our community,” Goff said. “We are thankful for the influence he had on so many and for his service to Cullman.”
Tickets for the annual meeting are available for $25 and can be purchased by contacting UWCC at 256-739-2948 or dmcdonald@uwaycc.org.
