DODGE CITY, Ala. – The Dodge City Town Council on Thursday evening discussed the plan and project proposal for replacing the drainage structure under County Road 216/Beech Grove Road at Simpson Creek.

Stephen Blankenship from McGehee Engineering presented the project to the council. He said the it would consist of engineering design work at a cost of $17,500, a topographic survey, a boundary/property line verification survey, digital contouring, aerial imaging and a drainage structure survey at a cost of $4,500. The remaining portion would be to prepare and submit to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management a general storm water permit authorization of the replacement of the original drainage structure.

Blankenship said the overall design time would be four to six weeks. The estimated total cost of the proposed design work is $23,500.

Councilman Anthony Todd said, “We need to get it done.”

Mayor Tawana Canada agreed, and a motion was made to suspend the rules, which passed. A motion was made to hire McGehee Engineering for the project, which passed as well.

The council welcomed the local Girl Scout troop, which attended to observe the meeting. The council also voted to participate in the Alabama Retail Association’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday July 19-21, 2019.
