COLONY, Ala. – On Friday morning, members of the Birmingham African American Genealogy Group (BAAGG) visited Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.  There they toured the library and learned about its genealogical resources from instructor Bob Davis, and received a presentation on Alabama history with a special focus on native and African-American history.

From Hanceville, the group traveled to Colony, where BAAGG President Ethel Alexander lives and is a member of the town council.  There they enjoyed lunch prepared by local residents, viewed the town’s mural collection created as part of the Alabama 200 Bicentennial celebration and learned about the history of one of the state’s oldest independent African-American communities.
