Ms. Senior Cullman County pageant this Saturday

CULLMAN, Ala. – The 2019 Ms. Senior Cullman County pageant will take place this Saturday, April 13 at 2 p.m. at Wallace State Community College’s Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre. Ten beautiful ladies will compete for the honor at this year’s pageant, themed “Be All You Can Be.” Serving as emcee will be Miss Alabama 2018 Callie Walker.

The pageant will have a variety of guest entertainers including “Cullman’s Finest,” made up of area law enforcement and elected officials. Members of The Factory Dance Productions and other local talents will also provide entertainment. 

This year’s pageant contestants will be scored on judge interviews, talent and evening gown.

This year’s contestants are: 

Karen Knight– Preschool director at Morgan County Baptist Association and Westmeade Baptist Church, children’s minister Hamby’s Chapel UMC, Walk for Autism and WBC Clown Ministry. For the talent portion, Knight will perform an interpretive light dance to “Let It Go.”

Phillis Hain– Author of “Diamond in the Dark,” Children’s Mission Charity in Uganda, VP of west Florida victims coalition, Loaves and Fishes program in Cullman, Grace Restoration Home for Women, National Organization for Victim’s Assistance, Florida Krimes Against Kids, National Task Force for Military Policy Development on Sexual Assault and church volunteer. Hain will perform a dramatic reading from her book “Diamond in the Dark.”

Judy Moon– Children’s Hospital (Birmingham), Children’s Miracle Network, Relay For Life. Moon will sing the popular gospel song “There’s a Miracle in the Making.”

Faye Harris– My home church volunteer, my own baker’s club for schools and churches, Sunday school teacher. Harris will perform a dramatic reading from the children’s book “Love You Forever.”

Hazel Goodwin– Rapid Responders, president of the hairdressers association, church volunteer, real estate (flipped houses), poultry farmer and hairdresser. Goodwin will be acting in a comedy skit featuring the song “She’s Got You.”

Jo Ann Bullard– School and community volunteer (40 years), cattle farmer, owner and operator of a wedding event venue, Curves member (14 years), member of Nashville Songwriters Association (15 years). Bullard will sing an original song she wrote about her father titled, “Ole Blue Truck.”

Catherine Downs– Member of Livingston Chapel Methodist Church, Chapel Hands Food Pantry volunteer, Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center member, Forest Hills Garden Club (former member), Bible school and Sunday school teacher, candy striper (high school), Girl Scouts of America (jr. high) Downs will be performing a country line dance to “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.”

Tammy Strong– Relay For Life Team Member, Susan G. Komen 5K runner (six years), first female member of the Cullman Elks Lodge, past officer Cullman Elks Lodge, Junior Women GFWC, past board member Ronald McDonald House. Strong will perform a demonstration of balance and stability training. 

Jolene Hammick– Senior Outreach, Smoke Rise Swim Club, Life Coach and Ministers Coach, volunteers in mission work. Hammick will perform an interpretive dance to “Everything I Do, I Do It for You.”

Mary Fortner– (co-pastored) The Gathering Place Church, B-Team Angels (six years), Alabama Ministerial Association (10 years), New Life Recovery Ministry Team (six years). Fortner will sing “I Want to Spend My Life Mending Broken People.”

Admission to the pageant is $10 and includes a program. Children ages 6 and younger get in free.
