CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Animal Shelter volunteer Donna Ruttkay shared a heartbreaking story about this week’s Cullman Tribune Pet of the Week:
Sam’s owner loved him but was simply unable to keep him. Forced to give him up by circumstances beyond the family’s control, his young human kissed him good-bye at the shelter. This canine friend is accustomed to being loved, and is struggling with kennel life. Ruttkay said Sam “shut down” for a while after his family left, but a visit from a young lady about the age of his previous owner made him light up again. This is a pet for families with kids.
According to Ruttkay, Sam is “a medley of Cullman’s finest dog breeds!” Around 4 to 5 years old, he’s a laid-back low- to medium-energy pet described as “a kindly, swell fellow.” He is good on his leash, great with children and has the makings of a wonderful therapy, companion or emotional support dog.
Animal shelter staff and volunteers work with their dogs to make sure they are accustomed to being around people, walking on a leash and practicing good behavior. Several of the shelter’s dogs have even been “hired” to work as therapy and special needs service dogs.
Discount doggie!
Sam has already been neutered, so his adoption fee will be less than half of the regular $90.
Please consider adopting to give a rescued pet a chance at a happy and healthy life.
