James “Mike” Hillman, 75, of Cullman, passed away on March 28, 2019.
He was born Aug. 7, 1943 to Howard and Marion Gammon Hillman, and was originally from Pine Mountain in Blount County. He graduated high school at Hueytown.
Mr. Hillman received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in engineering from UAB. He had a successful career as a land surveyor and engineer in both Birmingham and Cullman. Mr. Hillman was an avid marksman, winning awards and enjoying deer hunting. He was accomplished in both metal and woodworking, making parts in his shop for his race car and motorcycle. Mike was highly respected by all who knew him, especially the young people he mentored in how to work and live.
Preceding Mr. Hillman in death are his parents. Those left to cherish Mr. Hillman’s memories are his wife Linda “Sue” Shikles Hillman; son Jeff (Kim) Hillman; brother John (Brenda) Hillman; nephews, Tyler (Teresa) Hillman and Josh (Melanie) Hillman; and grandsons, Nicholas and Zachery Hillman.
Visitation for Mr. Hillman will be Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Moss Service Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. with a graveside service at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.
