WEST POINT, Ala. – It was just a few days ago when the Lady Warriors and Lady Aggies last squared off against one another in the inaugural Cullman County Cup title game and tonight’s matchup was just as tight. West Point bounced back from its loss at Heritage park on Saturday and defeated Fairview 3-2 at home.
Grace Lee and Faith Lee scored in the first half to put the Lady Warriors up 2-0 at the break but Greta Bishop cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal around the 20-minute mark of the second half. Kyli Armistead responded quickly with a goal of her own to put West Point back up by two but the Lady Aggies weren’t out yet.
An inadvertent own-goal from West Point during a melee inside the box trimmed the lead to 3-2 but the Lady Warriors held up the rest of the way defensively and held on to win it 3-2.
West Point is now 2-0 in area play and will try to keep things rolling when it hosts Guntersville on Thursday.
