SOMERVILLE, Ala. – Baseball season began today for Fairview and the Aggies are off to a 1-0 start after topping Brewer on the road 7-4. Dayne Black got the start on the mound for Fairview and tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and collecting 12 strikeouts to earn the win.
Oakley Mullican gave the Aggies a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI single and Fairview extended its lead in the top of the third. Dalton Payne drove in Riley Carroll with an RBI single and just two pitches later, Mullican made it 3-0 with another RBI single.
The Aggies scored two more runs on a walk and a hit batter in the top of the fifth but a pair of errors and a walk from Fairview allowed the Patriots to cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
The Aggies added some insurance in the top of the seventh when Caleb White drove in Payne and Black to stretch the lead to 7-3 with just three outs remaining for Brewer. An RBI double trimmed the lead to 7-4 in the final frame of the game, but it wasn’t enough for the Patriots and Fairview held on to win it and start the season in the win column.
Mullican finished the night three for three at the plate with three RBIs and Carroll finished the game three for four. The Aggies will look to move to 2-0 when they host Locust Fork Tuesday night.
GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Good Hope and Hanceville faced off against each other in Monday night baseball action and the Bulldogs used a huge seventh inning to win it 10-4 over the Raiders.
Hanceville struck first in the top of the second inning. Barrett Hardin put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly and Matt Cornelius and Ashton James each added RBI singles to make it 3-0 Hanceville. Good Hope got on the scoreboard in their half of the inning when Harper Chiaranda led off the inning with a single and later scored on an RBI double from Austin Wright.
The Bulldogs made it 4-1 in the top of the fifth on a suicide squeeze play by Tate Brown, but the Raiders struck back in their half of the inning. Matt Hancock and Kolton Speegle each got hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and they each scored on back-to-back RBI singles from Chiaranda and Caleb to cut the lead to 4-3.
Hanceville added a run in the top of the sixth when Campbell drew a two-out walk and scored on a Kainen Cruce RBI double, but Good Hope made it a one-run game again after Hancock scored on an error. The Bulldogs though broke it open in the top of the seventh by drawing seven walks, four with the bases loaded, and James added an RBI single to put the final score at 10-4.
Hanceville drew 14 walks in the contest. James (two hits) and Brown (one hit) each finished with two RBIs, and six other Bulldog players finished with an RBI in the game. They will be at home against J.B. Pennington on Tuesday.
For Good Hope, Chiaranda (two hits), Rusk (one hit), and Wright (one hit) each drove in a run. The Raiders will look for their first win of the season as they will travel to Danville on Thursday.
VINEMONT, Ala. – The Eagles opened up the 2019 season with a 10-0 win over the Meek Tigers. Game stats were not available. Vinemont's next game is scheduled for Tuesday against D.A.R at home at 4:30 p.m.
