PREP SOCCER: Lady Bearcats finish third at 2019 Southern Shootout

FOLEY, Ala. – The Cullman Lady Bearcats traveled to Foley over the weekend for the 2019 Southern Shootout and placed third in their bracket after collecting three wins and one loss. The Lady Bearcats defeated Daphne 3-0, Opelika 4-1 and Foley 3-1 but fell in a tight matchup with Sparkman 1-0. The junior varsity Lady Bearcats also had a successful weekend, finishing first in their bracket with a record of 2-0-1 and allowing just one goal in three games.

Abby Branham racked up eight goals for Cullman over the weekend, followed by Mimi Lunsford and Addie Echols who each collected a goal and an assist. Jeta Falcon led the Lady Bearcats with four assists and Ashlei Bryant and Emily Moss each added an assist as well. Cullman’s defense, with Gracie Barksdale at keeper, allowed just three goals in four tournament games.

The Lady Bearcats are now 4-1 on the season and head coach Jacob Brown considered the trip to Foley to be a successful one for his team. Cullman will try to stay in the win column when they host Northridge Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
