WEST POINT – Monday night started sub-regional play for girls’ squads across the state and several of those were local teams looking to advance to regionals, including West Point. The Lady Warriors took care of business in their matchup with East Limestone, defeating the Lady Indians, 65-46.

West Point didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard as Miriam Oldacre drilled a trey less than 10 seconds into the game. Lexi Shadix and Oldacre added layups to help the Lady Warriors take an early 7-0 lead, but East Limestone countered with eight in a row to take a one-point lead. A three from Oldacre helped West Point retake an 11-8 lead and then Mackenzie Carter scored seven in a row to increase the Lady Warriors’ lead to 18-10. West Point’s defense smothered the Lady Indians the rest of the way, allowing just one basket, and West Point took a 22-10 lead into the second period.

West Point continued to add to its lead in the second, making it 27-11 on a Molly Pendley layup, and later in the quarter, a layup by Shadix pushed the lead to 33-14. Pendley put an exclamation point on the first half after she got a steal and drilled a trey to give the Lady Warriors a 38-18 advantage at the half.

Oldacre continued her red-hot shooting, drilling a pair of free throws, plus a three, to make it a 47-22 score, and the Lady Warriors continued to make things tough for the Lady Indians, taking a 59-32 lead into the final period.

East Limestone took advantage of some sloppy play by West Point, scoring the first 11 points of the quarter to make it a 59-43 game, but Oldacre drilled yet another long-range shot to stop the run and West Point made sure that the Lady Indians didn't get any closer, taking the game in convincing fashion, 65-46.

Oldacre had a career night for West Point, finishing with a game-high 31 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Shadix had a double-double on the contest, adding 14 points, 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Carter ended up with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and a pair of blocks. Pendley finished with nine points, 11 rebounds and a block. West Point ended up out-rebounding East Limestone by almost double, 43-25.

The Lady Warriors will play in this year’s Northwest Regional at Wallace State on Saturday against Pleasant Grove. A starting time has not yet been determined.
