FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama Department of Music will host the UNA Honor Orchestra Festival, Jan. 11 and 12, 2019. This event, in its fifth year, will bring together 80-100 talented musicians from the Southeast, including string students from Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi and Georgia.
Once again led by Shoals Symphony at UNA Music Director Dr. Daniel Stevens, the festival will include two orchestras—an Honor Orchestra for the top students who audition, conducted by Stevens, and a Festival Orchestra, led by a visiting clinician.
Both orchestras will perform at the Honor Orchestra Concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Norton Auditorium. In addition to playing stand-alone selections, the Honor Orchestra students will have the opportunity to sit side-by-side and perform with the professional musicians of the Shoals Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra will perform works such as Rossini’s “William Tell Overture” and Marquez’s “Danzon No. 2.”
Tickets range from $20-$30 for adults, and $10 for students and children (17 and younger). Tickets are available online at shoalssymphony.una.edu and at the Shoals Symphony Office at 409 N. Court St, Suite 100, weekdays from 3-6 p.m. For more information, call 256-710-1623.
