CULLMAN – Peinhardt Farm’s heritage and traditional skills group, Peinhardt Homesteaders, will start the new year on a new day. From Sunday afternoons, the group will now meet on the first Saturday morning of each month, starting at 9 a.m. on Jan. 5.
Homesteaders’ Director Shannon McBride told The Tribune, “As we begin our third year with over 300 members, our goal is still to continue build an open, inviting ‘real life’ community for sharing interests, resources and expertise related to old and new skills promoting healthy, self-sufficient lifestyles, using best modern and traditional practices in farming, gardening, animal husbandry and home skills. We think a lot about ‘What would grandma do?’ as we re-skill and reconnect with our community surrounding Peinhardt Living History Farm. Groups of folks into blacksmithing, basketry, fiber arts–including a separate tatting group–meet monthly to teach and refine those skills and our monthly meeting of ‘Homesteaders’ explores other topics relating to life in the slower lane.”
McBride shared about the new year’s first session:
