CULLMAN – Just after 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the Cullman Police Department received two calls stating bomb threats had been made against an area business and hospital.
“We received both calls almost simultaneously from Cullman Regional and Advance Heat and Treat,” said CPD Chief Kenny Culpepper. “We immediately followed protocol set in place by Cullman Fire and Rescue, Cullman EMA and the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office to determine whether or not there was creditability to the threats.”
Culpepper stated that it took agencies less than a half hour to determine that the threats, sent via email to Cullman Regional and Advance Heat and Treat, were “bogus.”
“Once we looked at everything that was happening across the country, as this was not isolated to just Cullman, we quickly determined that these threats were part of a larger robo-email threat,” he said. “While these may have been part of larger robo-email threat, we all took the threats seriously and filed reports with federal agencies.”
For anyone who may receive similar emails, Culpepper said, “Please notify law enforcement as soon as you receive the email so we are able to make an offense report which will be included into the larger investigation.”
