CULLMAN – One person was killed and two injured in a two-vehicle crash at Cherokee Avenue and 24th Street (just south of the National Guard armory) Monday evening. The fatality victim was identified by Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick as April Dawn Landinger, 30, of Hanceville. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cullman Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigator Joey Duncan said Landinger was a passenger in a Hyundai Sonata driven by Terry Autwell, 27, of Hanceville. Duncan said the Hyundai was traveling southbound on Cherokee Avenue and attempting to turn left onto 24th Street when it was struck by a Ford Explorer coming northbound on Cherokee Avenue, driven by Skyler Higgins, 19, of Hayden. He said the driver of the Hyundai failed to yield the right of way.

Autwell was transported to UAB Hospital with serious injuries. Higgins was transported to Cullman Regional with minor injuries.

Lt. Jeff Warnke said the wreck happened just before 6 p.m.

"The Cullman Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigation team is handling the investigation," said Duncan. "The roads are a little wet, but at this time we don't think the weather was a factor."

The roadway was blocked for approximately three hours.
