BREMEN – Cold Springs faced off against Southeastern in its area opener Tuesday night and both varsity squads came away with impressive wins while the JV boys fell in a close game, 35-27.

Southeastern 34 – Cold Springs 27 (junior varsity boys)

The first quarter was one that the Eagles wanted to forget as they only scored on a single Lawson Burgess shot and trailed 13-2 after one. Cold Springs got its offense going in the second period; after the Mustangs made it 15-2, they went on a 9-0 run to cut it to a 15-11 game, but the Mustangs scored the final six points of the period and took a 21-11 lead into the half.

The third period started out perfectly for Cold Springs as Brodi Williams nailed a three, Zeke White added a layup and Ayden Alexander hit a free throw to cut the deficit to just four at 21-17. The Eagles couldn't quite take the lead, though, and went into the final quarter down 25-19.

Houston Goodwin nailed a trey and Leo Sturzenegger added a layup to make it a 25-24 contest, but an 8-0 Mustang run stopped any chance of an Eagle comeback and Cold Springs wound up falling 34-27.

Alexander finished with seven points and three steals for Cold Springs while Williams added seven points and two steals.
