From the Files of 1918:
A destructive fire on Monday morning, on First Avenue East, in the People’s Drugstore, spread to Will and Otto Richter, W.P. Ward, Fred Schneider, Mrs. Whittaker and G.W. Handley, who sustained heavy losses. Doctors W.J. Cottingham, Lute Hays and R.A. Culpepper had some instruments and office equipment completely destroyed, while others can be used, although it is damaged. Good work volunteer firemen.
George C. Metz, Superintendent of Education, announces that applicants for certificates to teach should apply now.
Virgil Brown and Otto Hartung are members of the band at Canton Pike, Arkansas. They play from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and at night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. They are kept quite busy.
J. R. Griffin will leave on Saturday for New York, where he will purchase a complete new line of ready to wear goods.
Miss Flora Thom entertained a few of her friends at a rook party on Monday night.

From the Files of 1938:
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Clark of Cullman announce the engagement of their daughter, Florence to Paul Russo of Birmingham. The date of the wedding will be announced later.
The angels of death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Handley on December 24th and called their son, Walter, from their home. His death was caused from poison sardines. He left a father, mother, one brother, three sisters, a wife and several children to mourn his death.
Mr. and Mrs. Horace Barnett announce the arrival of a little girl.
Mr. and Mrs. O.Z. Cornelius and daughter, Allie Lee, from Birmingham, spent the Christmas holidays with her mother, Mrs. W.H. Golden, near Gold Ridge and her niece, Jewel Golden went home with her to spend a few days.
Doctor J.S. Marsh from Collinsville and daughter, Elizabeth, from the University of Alabama, visited their sister and daughter, Mrs. L.B. Newman.
From the Files of 1955:
The engagement of Miss Betty Fine of Cullman has been announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Fine of Miami, Florida, to Leldon Ruehl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ruehl, of Cullman. Miss Fine is now employed at the Cullman-Jefferson Gas Company office. The wedding will be an event of February.
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Blakely spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Harden at Arab.
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Moore have a new son, born on December 18th. The Moores have five older children.
Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Lee McHann were married on December 6, 1954 in Iuka, Mississippi. She is the former Wynelle Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.H. Parker of Route Two, Cullman. Mr. McHann is the son of Mrs. Vedma McHann, of Route One, Cullman.
