CULLMAN – The Cullman County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) will host a two-part Citizens’ Firearms Safety Class on Monday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 24. The classroom portion will take place on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.  at the CCSO Training Center, while the life-fire portion of the class, on Nov. 24 at 8 a.m., will take place at Cullman Shooting Sports.

The first part of the class will focus on safely handling a weapon, proper technique for shooting a weapon, cleaning a weapon and getting familiar with a weapon. A PowerPoint presentation will be shown as well.

Citizens will be able to sign up to attend a safety course at the shooting range during the first part of the class.

"We at the Cullman County Sheriff's Office are advocates of our citizens having the knowledge and training they need to protect themselves," said Sheriff Matt Gentry. " I would add that we want them to also know how to handle the weapon safely and with this free training they are able to gain valuable knowledge in both these areas.”

To register, email Deputy Bradley Williams at bwilliams@cullmansheriff.org. Call 256-734-0342 with any questions.

Citizens do not have to register for the class, but it is encouraged so the CCSO has a good idea of how many citizens will attend.

REMINDER: Do NOT bring a gun or ammunition to the Monday night class; Monday night is the classroom-only portion of the class.
