HANCEVILLE – Hanceville Elementary School’s annual Veterans Day program this week featured poems recited by several students, traditional American melodies sung by the various grade levels, a tribute video featuring veterans and a presentation of colors by Hanceville JROTC students.
Following “The Star Spangled Banner,” the pledge and prayer, poems included “This Land We Love” and “The Pride of Our Country” (both by Roger Robicheau), “They Did Their Share,” by Joanna Fuchs and “In Flanders Fields,” which was written during World War I by Canadian physician and Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. The third grade sang “This Land is Your Land,” second graders performed “America, the Beautiful,” Kindergarten performed “America” and the first grade sang “God Bless America.”
During a recognition for all the veterans, students sang “Armed Forces Medley.”
Veterans were given certificates, small red flowers and were served refreshments.
