VINEMONT – Saturday started the Cullman County youth football playoffs as four teams from each division looked to clinch one of the two spots in their respective championship games next Saturday; the third-place games will also be played that day.

Cullman Bearcats 36, Good Hope Raiders 0 (Pee-Wee)

The day started with the pee-wee matchup between the Cullman Bearcats and the Good Hope Raiders. The Bearcats struck first in the opening quarter to take an 8-0 lead after one, then Tiger Flanigan picked off an Ayden Black pass and took it in for the score to give Cullman a 14-0 lead, which was the score at the half.

The second half saw the Bearcats continue to dominate on defense while pulling away on offense as Flanigan added a pair of rushing touchdowns and Cooper Loftin scored one as well; Cullman advanced to the pee-wee championship game next Saturday against the West Point Warriors, while the Raiders will play in the third-place game against the Cullman Cyclones.

West Point 26, Cullman Cyclones 14 (Pee-Wee)

West Point and Cullman faced off next to determine who would take on the Bearcats in the championship game next week. Noah Laney and Joshua Shannon II each scored touchdowns in the first quarter for the Warriors to go up 12-0 after one. But the Cyclones made things very interesting in the second quarter as they allowed only a Dawson Smith score and countered with a rushing touchdown by Cooper Ogstad; Tucker Perry later found Ogstad for a score to make it an 18-14 game at the half.

Both defenses took over in the third, and the score stayed the same heading into the final quarter. The Cyclones looked to take the lead about halfway into the quarter, but Ogstad’s pass got intercepted by Colton Thrower, who took it to the end zone to help clinch the win and the other pee-wee championship spot; West Point’s opponent will be the Cullman Bearcats.

The Cyclones will take on the Good Hope Raiders in the third-place game.

Vinemont 34, Holly Pond 14 (Fireplug)

The first fireplug game saw the Vinemont Eagles take on the Holly Pond Broncos. Vinemont jumped out to a quick 16-0 lead behind a pair of touchdowns by Carson Arbet. The Eagles stifled the Bronco offense for most of the first half, until Hunter Tolbert found the end zone to make it a 16-8 game going into the break.

The Eagles broke the game wide open by scoring the first 18 points of the second half as Trevor Lee scored a pair of touchdowns and Arbet added another score. Tolbert added another score later in the half, but it was too little, too late, as Vinemont advanced to the fireplug championship game. The Eagles will face off against the Good Hope Outlaws, while the Broncos will take on the Warriors in the third-place game.

Good Hope Outlaws 32, West Point 0 (Fireplug)

The Outlaws took on the Warriors in the final fireplug game of the day, and it was all Good Hope from the start as the Outlaws dominated on both sides of the ball. Kamden Collins scored three touchdowns and Bentlee Marlow added a pair of scores as the Outlaws jumped out to a quick 26-0 lead and went on to shut out the Warriors and clinch the other spot in the fireplug championship game. Their opponent will be the Vinemont Eagles, while West Point will face off against the Holly Pond Broncos in the third-place game.

Cullman Bearcats 22, Vinemont 0 (Wee-Wee)

The first wee-wee matchup of the day featured a rematch from last week as the Cullman Bearcats faced off against the Vinemont Eagles. Kash Thomas quickly put the Bearcats up with a long touchdown run down the right side; he added another score in the second quarter.

The Vinemont offense got stifled by Cullman’s defense in the first half and it continued into the second half; Andrew Godwin added the final score of the game in the third as the Bearcats clinched one of the two spots in the wee-wee championship game. The other spot will belong to the Cullman Cyclones, while the Eagles will take on the Outlaws in the third-place game.

Cullman Cyclones 20, Good Hope Outlaws 6 (Wee-Wee)

The Cyclones took on the Outlaws to determine the final slot in the wee-wee championship game. Each team scored a touchdown in the opening period: Weston Keel for Cullman and Karson Hollis for Good Hope. The score stayed tied at 6-all going into the second half. Keel added a touchdown reception in the third to make it 12-6 after three as both defenses took over. Late in the fourth, the Outlaws looked to find the end zone, but they got stopped on fourth down, and Keel clinched the other championship slot with his third touchdown of the game.

The Outlaws will take on the Vinemont Eagles in the third-place game.
