(Updated) 2 confirmed dead in Hwy. 69 crash

CULLMAN COUNTY – Two people were killed in a severe crash Tuesday morning on Alabama Highway 69, approximately 2 miles south of Bug Tussle, going toward Jasper. The incident happened around 10 a.m. Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick confirmed the fatalities.

According to initial emergency dispatch reports, an 18-wheeler hauler hauling steel coils jackknifed off an embankment on top of a vehicle.

The Cold Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama State Troopers and Cullman Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene.

Trooper Chuck Daniel said the driver of the 18-wheeler was not physically injured.

One lane of the roadway has now reopened; however, traffic is moving slowly.

The identities of the victims have not been released.
