BLOUNTSVILLE – Holly Pond and J.B. Pennington faced off in a 3A, Region 5 contest Friday night, and the visiting Broncos were shut out, 28-0.
There was nothing doing in the first quarter, and the second started much the same until the Tigers got on the board midway through. Pennington scored two unanswered touchdowns to make it 14-0 going into the half.
The third quarter started off strong for the Tigers, who made it 21-0 with a touchdown on the ground just three minutes into the quarter. Holly Pond ended up getting nowhere against the Tigers’ defense. However, when the Tigers received the ball, they were able to work quickly on offense. Pennington scored its fourth touchdown of the night to make it 28-0.
In the fourth, the defenses showed out and neither team found the end zone or the uprights.
The road loss drops the Broncos to 5-3 on the season and 2-3 in the region with on off-week coming up. Holly Pond will be back on the field when they host Vinemont in another critical Region 5 matchup on Oct. 26.
